Reading Reflection #1

Corin Justa EDT 3470 – Monday 4:00pm Lab Group #1 – Classroom Kitchen and Catering Reading Reflection #1 1.Things that need to be kept in mind in the beginning of this journey through Project-Based Learning are motivations and ambition to be able to provide students with a new fun and interactive way of learning. It is important to note that today’s students are up to the challenge and will take advantage of the new tools you set out for them in their learning. The projects are worth the effort and will be fun and rewarding for you as you become more passionate about teaching this new way. Students live and learn in the real world, and by incorporating PBL into their education, you are setting them up for success as they step out on their own, remembering what you have taught them and helped them accomplish. 2.The overall benefits of the PBL approach are providing students with a new engaging form of teaching that requires them to work together in groups to discover and solve problems that occur in our growing world and communicate these new findings using the same technology that they used to learn from. 3.The benefit PBL has on the students whom participate in this type of teaching style is a new, fun, interactive way of learning. Students become responsible to accomplish new goals among their peers, with a learning outcome that is rewarding. This new way of teaching provides students with more than just lessons that they will learn and forget after leaving high school. Students will take pride in their work and their experiences with technology and the education they learned while using technology will stay with them as they go out into the world. 4.Issues that need to be considered in the PBL approach include how to provide a successful learning environment for your students using this new approach. Teachers need to know that they are learners too, and that they will grow and achieve new goals as their students do as well. Teachers have to to engage their students in order to have a successful work environment. As in the old-fashioned ways of teaching, it is also important in PBL to have expectations set, a classroom management style, and ways of assessing and collecting the student work. Without these prepared elements of a solid foundation of teaching, issues may arise. It is the teacher’s responsibility to provide confidence in the technology approach so that students, parents, colleagues and principals find your new ways of teaching just as exciting as they do. Without the success of their students learning, teachers may have trouble getting others to support and appreciate their new teaching style. 5.New Technology High provides an example of what all schools can become from the New Technology Model. If enough teachers become engaged and successful in this new form of teaching, it will begin to spread to all classrooms and become the new centerpiece of teaching approaches. It will design a new change in education and technology will become readily available all students in every classroom.

  1. Great reflection! I loved how you stressed that PBL is all about setting students up for success on their own by assigning them real life projects. It is great to remember that students learn best in the real-world and that we can facilitate this type of learning for our students using PBL!

  2. Great explanation of what PBL is and what the issues and benefits are for both the students and the teachers. Its not only a great learning experience for kids but also for the teacher and you did a great way of explaining what they are. I like that you noted that kids these days are up for more challenges and are willing to learn how to use any tools that are given to them. It was hard for me as a kid to be interested in learning and I believe PBL is the best solution for teaching students that have the same learning problem as me. Not only will different projects keep the kids interested in school, but it will also help them learned the materials better and help them remember school being fun as a kid. PBL is a great way to teach kids and will be a big part of being successful when they get older.
